Footprints in the Sand

What we see on a map is not the world itself — but a momentary accumulation of traces left by others. Digital maps appear stable and real-time, yet are built on fragmented and delayed data. I designed an interactive map that visualizes user-generated data as temporary traces. This project does not improve accuracy—it makes temporality visible. Information appears, fades, and disappears over time. It challenges the assumption that what we see is reliable, and questions a deeper belief: Stability guarantees reliability — What feels most stable may already be out of date.

Challenge

How to design vivid surreal characters for EonFantasy, maintain strong avant-garde visual impact, and convey the brand’s core proposition of “future realm, surreal narrative” without making the rendered images seem too obscure?

Solution

With “surreal form semantics” as the creative logic, we built the characters in layers:

  • Integrate abstract geometry and organic forms, use material contrast (e.g. smooth and rough) to enhance visual tension;

  • Implant core brand symbolic elements (such as signature colors and refined form details) to make the characters strike a balance between avant-garde flair and strong brand-recognizable traits.

Impact

EonFantasy’s surreal character series successfully leveraged the creative market, with remarkable results:

  • This distinct character series won 2 notable awards in leading international design competitions

  • Brand website traffic increased by 80%, with the character section contributing 60% of the traffic

  • Derivative digital collectibles sold out on the launch day, with a premium rate exceeding 200%
